Day 25

Dly Focus: Love for God and Neighbor

The Pharisees and the Sadducees asked Jesus for what was the greatest commandment. He answered and said, “Love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself” (See Matthew 22:37).

Scriptures:

Deuteronomy 6:5-9 (NIV)
5  Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.
7  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 10:12 (NIV)
And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul…

Matthew 22:34-40 (NIV)
34  Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.
35  One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
36  “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37  Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38  This is the first and greatest commandment.
39  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Prayer:

LOVING HEAVENLY FATHER, develop and nourish within (us) them a deep and abiding LOVE for You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and all people, especially God’s people. Lord, love the world through us, our children, grandchildren and family from Now until Jesus’ returns, in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
