God speaks to us in many various ways. Most clearly, God spoke through Jesus as expressed in the Word of God (Hebrews 1:2-3). God continues to speak to us most succinctly in the Bible. Furthermore, we see a broad range of methods in the Bible in which God spoke to His people, including through:
- The Holy Spirit – “All Scripture is God-breathed…” (2 Timothy 3:16).
- True and trustworthy prophets – “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways” (Hebrews 1:1)
- Angels of God – Gabriel’s announcement of Jesus’ supernatural birth to Mary (Luke 1:28): “The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
- Dreams – Urging Joseph, Mary, and baby Jesus to escape to Egypt: “… an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream…” (Matthew 2:13)
- Visions – Daniel’s interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams (Daniel 2:16 and 19): “…Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him…During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision.”
