For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NIV
A Child, the priceless Son of God, has been given to us. The weight of the world rests on His shoulders. Jesus is the gift of God to a fallen and broken world. He brings salvation and eternal life to all who believe in His atoning and redeeming work. It is a gift of grace made possible through faith.
This child has many names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace to mention only four of His names. In this season of Christmas and in the coming year, will He be your Counselor, Mighty God, Father or Prince of Peace? Most likely, Jesus will be all four for all of us and perhaps more!
In addition to being our Wonderful Counselor, Jesus has also sent us a personal Advisor, an all-knowing Counselor, in the Holy Spirit. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you…” (John 14:16-17 NIV).
In the world we live today, we all can use the very best advice possible. The Christ Child has shared of Himself and His anointed counseling by giving us the best Counselor there is, the Holy Spirit!
